Erwin Martin Fahrni, of Ionia, passed away Monday, March 26, 2018 at the age of 67. He was born on May 13, 1950 in Grand Rapids, Michigan, the son of Gerald D. and Marlene F. (Litfiy) Fahrni. Erwin attended St. John Luthern School in his formative years and graduated from Ionia High School Class of 1968.
He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Navy, serving during the Vietnam War. Erwin was a devoted employee at General Motors in Lansing, Michigan. He enjoyed hunting and fishing, especially with his dear friend, Mike Zumsteg. Erwin took pleasure in traveling, in particular, he liked to go Up North. Erwin had a love for music and was a former member of LACS. He also admired old cars, and took pride in owning a corvette and nomad.
Preceding Erwin in death are his parents; sister, Jeri Lou Fahrni; step-father, John Stephan; special friend, Keith Hagerman; and Brandon Newcombe, who was like a son to Erwin. Surviving Erwin are his beloved fiancé, Karen Newcombe; sons, Martin (Mike) Newcombe of Arizona and Erik (Katelyn) Newcombe; very special granddaughters, Teagan Marie and Hayden; treasured sister, Nanette (David) Wheaton; adoring niece, Nicole (Darrell) Crawford of Georgia; and many loving aunts, uncles, and cousins.
The Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Kenneth Harger at 12:00 p.m., Wednesday, April 4, 2018 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.
