James William Platte, age 49, of Westphalia passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Charleston, W.V. He was born in St. Johns on May 23, 1968, the son of Carol and Genevieve (Thelen) Platte. He married his beloved wife, Tonya on November 2, 1991.
Jim was a devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and a hard-working employee at the Lansing Capital Region International Airport. He loved farming, music, and cherished the times he got together with his friends to have a beer. Jim loved the outdoors, including when he took hunting trips to Colorado and when he went camping at the pond with his family, whom he treasured spending time with.
Preceding Jim in death are his mother-in-law, Marjorie Simmon; sister-in-law, Rhonda Devereaux; and niece, Sarah Scott. Jim is Survived by his children, Halie Platte, Hayden (fiancé, Angelica Holguin), and Reece Platte; parents, Carol and Genny Platte; siblings, Cindy (Dean) Schmitz, Jane (Joe) Theis, Sandy Schmitz, and Bruce (Kelly) Platte; in-laws, Stephen and Janet Simmon; brothers and sisters-in-law, Jeffrey (Donna) Simmon, Kevin Simmon, Jennifer (Matt) Scott, Kimberly (Dennis) O’Hare, and Steve (Jamie) Simmon; many nieces and nephews; several great-nephews and great-niece; many treasured friends; and pets, Small Cat, Sophia, and Bentley.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. on Monday from 2-8 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish- Michigan - in support of Wish-A-Mile - Team Emily. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
