Tonya Lynn Platte, age 47, of Westphalia passed away unexpectedly in an automobile accident on Saturday, March 24, 2018 in Charleston, W.V. She was born in Carson City on September 10, 1970, the daughter of Stephen and Marjorie (Smith) Simmon. She married her beloved husband, James Platte on November 2, 1991.
She was a faithful member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Christian Mother's Society. Tonya was a dedicated employee at the Accident Fund, where she worked as an IT Coordinator and she was a member of the LGBTQ social group there as well. Tonya loved life, she enjoyed riding her bike and running. Tonya was involved in the Wish-A-Mile Bicycle Tour for seven years, riding her bike 300 miles in three days. She was a wonderful babysitter and found delight in caring for her animals. Tonya treasured the time she spent camping at the pond with her family, who meant the world to her.
Preceding Tonya in death are her mother, Marjorie; sister, Rhonda Devereaux; and niece, Sarah Scott. Tonya is survived by her children, Halie Platte, Hayden (fiancé, Angelica Holguin), and Reece Platte; father, Stephen (Janet) Simmon; siblings, Jeffrey (Donna) Simmon, Kevin Simmon, Jennifer (Matt) Scott, Kimberly (Dennis) O’Hare, and Steve (Jamie) Simmon; in-laws, Carol and Genny Platte; brothers and sisters-in-law, Cindy (Dean) Schmitz, Jane (Joe) Theis, Sandy Schmitz, and Bruce (Kelly) Platte; many nieces and nephews; several great-nephews and great-niece; many treasured friends; and pets, Small Cat, Sophia, and Bentley.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, April 3, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 6-8 p.m. on Monday from 2-8 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. on Sunday and 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the funeral chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Make-A-Wish- Michigan - in support of Wish-A-Mile - Team Emily. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
