Adeline Josephine Schafer, of Westphalia, passed away peacefully surrounded by her family on April 11, 2024 at the age of 91. She was born in Westphalia on June 30, 1932 to Ferdinand H. and Anna E. (Thelen) Knoop.
She was a steadfast member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church, where her spirit thrived within the Christian Mothers Society and the Catholic Order of Foresters. Her commitment to her church family was an integral part of her life. Adeline found joy in the simple pleasures of life. Her nimble fingers were often adorned with the tools of her favorite hobbies: crocheting, needlepoint, and baking. She found solace in the pages of a good book and the challenge of a crossword puzzle. Yet, perhaps the greatest source of happiness in Adeline's life was her family. She cherished each moment spent with her beloved grandchildren, finding endless joy in watching them grow and thrive.
Preceding Adeline in death are her parents; husband of 58 years, Jerome Schafer; son, Luke Schafer; son-in-law, Wayne Schneider; grandson, Darren Schneider; step-grandson, Jason Pompey; sister and brother-in-law, Marie (Lawrence) Warnke, brother, Joseph; and brother-in-law, Ken Simon. She is survived by her loving children, Mary (Steven) Schneider, Kathleen (William) Pung, Bernadette (Gary) Meyers, Joseph (Sue) Schafer, Geralyn (Michael) Schaefer, Patricia (Randel) Pompey, Thomas (LeAnn) Schafer, Ronald (Lori) Schafer, Anthony (Karen) Schafer, William (Tisha) Schafer, and Donna (Steven) Schrauben; 32 grandchildren; 49 great-grandchildren; 7 step-grandchildren; 11 step-great-grandchildren; and siblings, Janet Simon and Richard (Cindy) Knoop.
The family would like to extend a special, heartfelt thank you to Fairview A.F.C. and Corso Care Hospice for the wonderful care they took of Adeline.
