Eugene Albert Platte, age 91, passed away on Friday, September 13, 2019 . He was born on October 27, 1927 in Westphalia, the son of Ferdinand and Antoinette (Arens) Platte. Gene was a member of St. Mary's Catholic Church and the Westphalia Fire Department. He was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army and a Corporal with the 43rd Army Infantry. He was a member of the the V.F.W. Post #3733, enjoyed going to horse races, traveling, and fishing. Gene is preceded in death by his wife, Betty; son, Joel Platte; sister, Delores (Richard) Fedewa; brothers, Marvin Platte, Carol Platte, and Kenneth (Joan) Platte. Surviving are his children, Mandy (Chris) Schrauben and Jennifer (James) Wise; daughter-in-law, Connie Platte; grandchildren, Natalie (Jeremy) Leonard, Kelly (Ross) Boomershine, Dawn (Jacob) Bender, Gabriel Schrauben, Sarah Platte, Alex Platte, Katherine Platte, and James Wise; 8 great-grandchildren; brother, William (Connie) Platte; sisters-in-law, Mary Platte, Genevieve Platte, and Bernadine Ozment; brother-in-law, Tony Fedewa; in-laws in the Casper family; and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, September 17, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will be in St. Mary's Cemetery. Military Honors will be provided by The V.F.W. Post #3733. The family will receive friends from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Monday at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. on Monday at the chapel. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Hospice House of Mid-Michigan in memory of Gene.
