Karen Lee Obituary

Karen Marie Lee (Farr) left her constraining earth-suit on Sunday, September 23, 2018.  Born on June 18, 1950, she was a farm girl through and through.  Frustrated by the limitations imposed on her as a “female,” like not being able to play on the boy’s baseball team (even though her curveball was faster),  she vowed to fight for equality for the rest of her life – even marching with the heroic Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.  Her brisk intolerance for inhumanity, political activism and ability to speak her mind with a friendly smile will be desperately missed by her family and friends (yes, even when we didn’t agree).

Art, writing and music (Karen was a talented pianist) were her passion. She loved gardening, doing home remodeling projects (like, really big ones) and building furniture.  She also had a mad love for her Poupsy, husband Arthur Lee (sorry Poupsy, had to do it).

Family and friends were her other passion, what truly fed her soul.  There is no doubt she touched every life she entered.  She loved hard and sacrificed often.  If you didn’t have a chance to know Karen, you missed out.  However, you are still lucky enough to catch her bright-light in those who survive her, including sister, Muriel (Larry) Clark; husband, Arthur “Poupsy” Lee; daughter. Glory Tews-LeDu (Joe); two vivacious grandsons, Damien and Derek LeDu; and many more nieces and nephews.  Like Karen, she had sisters and a brother whose life were cut way too short, including, Nadine (Jerry) Henderson, Eileen (John) Keel, and Tim Farr.  We are quite confident she is celebrating “life” with them now.

We would love to welcome family and friends to help celebrate Karen’s life on Saturday, September 29, 2018 at the VFW in Portland, MI (1324 E Bridge St, Portland, MI 48875) between 2pm – 6pm.

In lieu of flowers, please keep Karen’s passion for outreach and goodwill alive by considering a donation to your local women’s shelter. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
