Richard C. Rademacher, age 70, of Westphalia, passed away on March 12, 2019. He was born on April 18, 1948, the son of Wilfrid and Loretta (Thelen) Rademacher.
He graduated from college with a degree in social work, but found carpentry to be his true calling. He worked as a finish carpenter for nearly thirty years and also built many unique pieces of furniture. Rich enjoyed people, especially his family and his friends from Pohl's gas station where he went every morning to get a fresh cup of coffee and the latest news. He collected old coins and interesting antiques. At family functions, Rich was usually involved in whatever nonsense was being brewed up by his nieces. He was an avid reader, especially enjoying historical material.
Rich was very involved in Parish activities: he worked on St. Mary's Hall, did renovations for the rectory, and spent time caring for the cemetery. He was the family genealogist. He was proud of his German heritage and worked tirelessly on tracking down his ancestry. Rich would then make copies of his work and share it with the rest of his family. He was happiest when he was busy.
Rich is survived by his brothers, Frank (Cheryl) Rademacher and Jim (Jean) Rademacher; sisters, Elaine (Jerry) Miller, Cheryl (John) Wieber, Sandy (Tom) Stallard; and many nieces and nephews.
The Funeral Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:15 a.m., Saturday, March 16, 2019 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service at the funeral chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. Per Rich’s wishes, there will be no funeral luncheon following the service. Memorial contributions may be made to the Fr. Miller Trust Fund or the Society of the Divine Word Seminary in Rich's honor. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
