Robert J. Pline of Westphalia, passed away on Wednesday, April 11, 2018 in St. Johns, MI.
Bob was born to Robert A. and Eleanora Pline on June 17, 1936, in Westphalia, MI. He married the love of his life, Alice Simon, on July 18, 1959 in Westphalia.
Bob was a carpenter and builder. He retired from the State of Michigan as a Maintenance Supervisor for the Department of Corrections in Ionia. He was also a member of the Michigan National Guard in his 20’s. He was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church. Spending time with his family was very important to him. Golf, bowling, reading, watching old movies and television shows and building furniture were his hobbies.
Bob is preceded in death by his parents and sister, Ann Heckman.
He is survived by his wife of 58 years, Alice and nine children, Julie (Thomas) Doyle of DeWitt, Kathleen (Jo Gorman) Pline of Peoria, IL, Joseph (Valerie Hodges) Pline of Lyons, Donald (Sheila) Pline of Portland, Marvin (Amy) Pline of Portland, Sandy (Thomas) Herron of Hastings, Bruce (Donna Lumbert) Pline of Portland, David (Angela) Pline of Portland, and Cindy (Randy) Oosterhouse of Saranac. He is also survived by grandchildren, Kelly Haines and Abbey Doyle; Stephen, Katie, Anna, and Daniel Pline; Ben and Andrew Pline; Cassaundra Medlar and Amber Pline; Rae, Lindsey, and Riley Herron; Eleanor Pline; and Evan, Brady, Joel, and Eli Oosterhouse. He is also survived by two great-grandchildren, with another due in September 2018. Bob is survived by his sisters, Marilyn Pline, Agatha Graham, Lorraine Schmitt, and Irene Murray.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Monday, April 16, 2018 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Sunday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia. The rosaries will be prayed on Sunday at 1:30 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. at the funeral chapel. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
