Steven Maurice Kahn

Steven M. Kahn, age 66, passed away February 15, 2019.  He was the son of Ralph and Ruth (David) Kahn.  Steve was born on January 10, 1953 in Manhattan, New York.  He attended Brooklyn Tech High School, the University of Rhode Island and was a graduate of Michigan State University.  In 1971, he met the love of his life, Carol Miller, at Camp Equinunk in Pennsylvania.  They were both camp counselors.  They were married on September 7, 1972 at St. Patrick Church in Portland.  Steve retired from the State of Michigan Department of Laboratories, where he worked on rabies vaccine production.  

Steve was an avid and talented photographer.  He was a past member of several photographic organizations, including PPA and PPM.  He received a Masters of Photography for his photographic works.  He won awards at both local and national levels of competition.  

He was a member of St. Patrick Parish, where he currently served as usher and in the past served as Eucharistic Minister and Lector.  He also was a past member of the St. Patrick School Board and served on the Pastoral Council.  He was a member of the Knights Of Columbus.

He loved playing cards, long breakfasts with friends, family get-togethers, and trips to capture his beautiful photographs of nature and the world around him.  

Steve was very proud of his family.  He loved his family, friends, faith and photography.

He was preceded in death by his parents; grandparents; aunt; uncle; cousins; and brother-in-law.  He is survived by his wife of 46 years, Carol; three children, David (Silvia) Kahn, Matthew (Amy) Kahn, Amy (Darren) Abbott; and granddaughter, Mya Kahn.  He is also survived by his sister, Renee (Rick) Schoenmann; nephew, Derek Schoenmann; uncle, Harry Kahn; and second cousin, Adam (Christina) Miller; sisters in-law, Susan Miller and Joyce Pline; and brother-in-law, Ted (Mary) Miller; as well as beloved nieces and nephews and a great-niece and great-nephews.
 

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 1:00 p.m., Saturday, February 23, 2019 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 p.m. and 6-8 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland and from 12:00 p.m. until the time of the service at the church on Saturday. The rosary will be prayed at 3:30 p.m. and a Scripture Service will be held at 7:30 p.m. on Friday at the funeral chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to the Father Flohe Foundation or the Portland Area Service Group in honor of Steve.
