Thelma Anna (Thelen) Simon

Thelma Anna Simon of Westphalia, Michigan, passed away peacefully on December 22, 2018 at age 89.  She was the daughter of Julius and Rosa Thelen.  She was preceded in death by her husband, Hilary Simon. She is survived by five daughters and 2 sons: Barbara Chea, Diane Casari (Jerry), Janet Simon (Chris Oehring), Judy Gwozdek (Thomas), and Cheryl Bowie (Tony), Steve (Jody) Simon and Neal (Nancy) Simon.  She was the loving grandmother of sixteen grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren.  She is survived by a sister and brother, Gladys (James) Armbrustmacher and Richard (Rosemary) Thelen and sisters-in-law, Mary Simon, Anne Thelen, Rita Thelen, and Janice Thelen.  She was a member and past President of the Christian Mothers of St. Mary’s Church.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated Thursday, December 27, 2018 at 10:30 am at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia, Michigan with the Rev. Eric Weber presiding.  Rite of Committal will follow at St Mary’s Catholic Cemetery.   The family will receive friends from 3-7 p.m. on Wednesday, December 26, 2018 at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St., Westphalia, Michigan.  A Rosary will be prayed at 5:30 p.m. on Wednesday at the chapel.  Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes, Portland.  Very special thanks to the staff at Sunrise Living in Cascade for the care of Mom for the past five years and to Hospice of Michigan.   In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to Westphalia Fire Department, Hospice of Michigan, and the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Thelma.  Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
