Adelene Martin, age 93, of Westphalia, MI, was called home to the Lord on January 26, 2025. She was born December 10, 1931 in Fowler, MI, the daughter of Harold and Anna (Schneider) Pung. Adelene spent her early life in and out of mischief with her 13 siblings and later moved to Lansing where she worked at Auto Owners Insurance Company before becoming a full-time homemaker. On April 24, 1957, Adelene married Clifford Martin, and together they shared 57 years of marriage before his passing on April 6, 2015.
Adelene was a member of St. Mary’s Parish in Westphalia, Christian Mothers and Women’s Guild, and a rosary group where she made thousands of rosaries for the missions. Throughout the years, Adelene found joy in many things; from playing the piano and accordion, to dancing for hours at polka festivals. She played on various bowling leagues and loved to play bingo. Gardening was a way to provide fresh fruit and vegetables for the family, but she also loved the serenity of digging in the dirt and tending to her flower beds. Adelene was a talented sewer and made many beautiful quilts over her lifetime, including one for each of her grandchildren. She had a passion for cards and a visit with Adelene usually included a spirited game of pinocle or euchre and an invitation to partake in her favorite drink.
Preceding Adelene in death were her parents, Harold and Anna; husband, Clifford Martin; son, Wayne Martin; and brothers, Joseph and Roy Pung. Surviving are her children, Rosanne Meyer, Dennis (Teresa) Martin, Agnes (Brian) Koenigsknecht, Allan (Mari Douma) Martin, Kenneth (Jane) Martin, and Brenda Martin; daughter-in-law, Lisa (Mike) Clarizio; 26 grandchildren and 28 great-grandchildren; siblings Agatha (Leigh) Lyon, Virginia Thelen, Clare (Eunice) Pung, Richard (Mary Ellen) Pung, Carol Simon, Margaret (Eugene) Schafer, Joan (Ted) Simon, Kenneth Pung, Eunice (Joe) Arens, Ralph (Susan) Pung, Ed (Linda) Pung; sister-in-law Sharon Pung, and many nieces and nephews.
Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on Wednesday, January 29, 2025 from 2-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 1:30 p.m. and a Scriptural Wake Service being held at 7:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at St. Mary’s Parish, Westphalia on Thursday, January 30, 2025 at 10:30 a.m. with Fr. Todd Koenigsknecht, Fr. Gary Koenigsknecht, and Fr. Eric Weber presiding. The funeral will be live broadcasted on the St. Mary's Catholic Church's Facebook page. Rite of Committal will follow the mass at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery, Westphalia. A luncheon will follow the committal at Most Holy Trinity Activity Center, 11159 W. Kent Street, Fowler. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
