Adriana Porter Obituary

Adriana S. Klein/Porter

Born the 24th of September 1945

As a young girl she would bike with her grandfather 10 or 20 miles to see family and friends.  Her and her grandfather would stop and eat at the nicest places in town.  They loved to watch and practice gymnastics.

September 3rd, 1968, Adriana, and the family moved to the states.  This would be the start of her 35 moves to 3 countries, 5 states over the next 55 years.  While the family lived in England for 5 years Adriana played on the military base softball team as their catcher.  We would all get on the blue bus and travel around the UK to different Airforce bases to play softball.  When the winter came she joined bowling.

We moved to Michigan and the Airforce said we would be here in Michigan for 5 years, we were here 11 months.  While living in Michigan every other weekend we would drive home to see my mom.  The little cat we had would not sit still until we got over the bridge.

While in New Mexico Adriana started cosmetology school, she got her license in Michigan and loved working with hair.  In England my mom and Aunt Maggie came over to visit Ron, Nan and Pat. At the same time Adriana’s mom and dad came to visit as well with her brother and his wife. We had 10 people in a 3-bedroom house.  We had fun with everyone, it was the only time Adriana’s mom got to see my mom.

Adriana’s mom was a great cook, each time we were over from England she would have Dutch vegetable soup and meat balls for us.  As you look around our house you will see a lot of embroidery work done by Adriana’s mom. Aunt Maggie showed Adriana how to knit and quilt.  Adriana was able to give a lot of her knitting work to people in need.  Adriana took up pottery and made me a mug that still sits on my desk.  While in England candle making was a big deal and Adriana hosted candle making and wine tasting parties.

While in Victorville, California, Adriana was able to travel to the Price is Right show, although she didn’t make it as contestant.  While mom was in California Adriana took her to see the show.  A bunch of folks from the Air Force Base went down to see the Johnny Carson show. Adriana also got to see the space shuttle land at Edwards Air Force Base.

In Washington, Adriana worked at K-Mart and Walmart in different departments as an employee/supervisor.  While working at Walmart she bet her boss that she could out sell him and loser had to kiss a pig – Adriana won!  The best job Adriana had was the Auburn Auto Auction.  Her boss let her drive all the fancy sports cars and big trucks.

On the home front Adriana loved fishing, she didn’t eat them, take them off the line or clean them.  However, she caught more than I did.  Adriana loves flowers.  Wherever we lived Adriana planted flowers.  People knew where we lived by all the flowers in the yard.  When Adriana found AOL it was a God send.  She was able to meet and talk to people form her homeland.  Over time we traveled to Red Bluff in California, Colorado Springs in Colorado, Appleton in Wisconsin and around Michigan to meet and stay with the new friends she made.  While in Colorado we stopped in to see Ron, Nan and Pat.  The friends Adriana met online would be her lifelong friends.  We really enjoyed traveling to meet her AOL friends.

Wilstalenhoef is Adriana’s friend from Holland of 71 years.  She was there when Adriana and I met the first time for our lifelong love.
