Alvin H. Schafer, age 80, of Pewamo went to be with the Lord on Monday, December 14, 2020. He was born on March 4, 1940, the son of William and Esther (Wirth) Schafer. Alvin was a faithful member of St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo and the Knights of Columbus #8071. Alvin was the Service Manager and then a salesman at Schanski Chrysler Dodge Jeep Ram, where he worked for 38 years. He loved being social with other people and always ran into someone he knew no matter where he went. His passion was golf, his hobbies included meticulously caring for his yard, traveling, and restoring cars in his free time. Alvin will be missed by all who knew him.
Preceding Alvin in death are his parents; sisters, Cornelia Keilen, Julie Atkins, Alice (Roy) Spitzley; and brother-in-law, Joseph Lenneman. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Doreen (Kesler) Schafer; daughter, Gina Schafer; sister, Julianne Lenneman; brothers, Paul (Ruth) Schafer, Michael (Janice) Schafer, and Charles (Sue) Schafer; in-laws, James Keilen, Pauline (Richard) Druschel; Paul (Ella Madsen) Kesler; Stephen (Marilyn) Kesler, Douglas (Carole Hockeborn) Kesler, Michael (Marge) Kesler; and 38 special nieces, nephews, and their spouses.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Darrel Kempf at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 19, 2020 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Friday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 201 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia.
