Amy Denise Kahn, of Portland, age 54, passed away on May 29, 2024. Amy arrived on November 27, 1969, Thanksgiving Day. She did not cry but looked around and her big blue eyes locked with her mother - the rest was history. After her kindergarten graduation, it was noted in a card how compassionate, caring and sharing she had become. This continued for the rest of her life. Amy met the love of her life, Matt, and they were married on May 8, 2004. Although she was told that she could not have children, God blessed them with a precious daughter, Mya. Thus began a lifetime of dedication between mother and daughter that even death cannot change.
In June 2015, the Portland Community suffered a damaging tornado. Amy wanted to help and immediately took action. She was instrumental in launching the “Portland Strong” Facebook page to connect those in need with those who wanted to help. She was later recognized by Mayor Barnes for her efforts. This Facebook page continues to this day, helping those in need in the Portland community. She further helped the community after earning her massage therapy license, bringing health, healing and relief to her clients. Amy loved with great intensity and depth. If you had the privilege of receiving her love, you were blessed. Amy was a beautiful woman that sparkled, believed in God and was brave to the end.
She was preceded in death by her father-in-law, Steven Kahn; niece, Tiffany Easley and stepfather, George Balser. Surviving are her husband of 20 years, Matt; daughter, Mya; mother, Vickee I. Balser; father, Charles D. Hutchison; sister, Wendy J. Easley; mother-in-law, Carol Kahn; brother-in-law, David (Silvia) Kahn; sister-in-law, Dr. Amy (Darren) Abbott; nephews, Jimmy and Mark Easley; her special Yorkie, Bella Kahn and many friends.
