Anna Jean Almy, age 97 of Lyons, passed away on Wednesday, September 3, 2025. She was born on May 19, 1928, the daughter of Grace Violet (Rank) Higbee and John Joshua Higbee in Ionia, Michigan. She was a long-time member of the Portland United Methodist Church. Anna enjoyed baking, cooking, crocheting, sewing, quilting, and, now and then, working on the farm with Tom. Anna especially loved chickens: most of them had names, and she was so proud when they would lay an egg! After Tom's retirement, Anna and Tom enjoyed going out to dinner and listening to and dancing to music at local venues. They were very active and always together while watching grandchildren play sports. Most of all, Anna enjoyed family gatherings and being with her family.
Anna graduated from Ionia High School in 1946. After graduation, she went to work for Trojan, sewing appliques on letter jackets. A mutual friend introduced Tom & Jeannie, and they were together from then on. They married on August 21, 1948, and enjoyed a loving 70 years together until his death on January 16, 2019. Preceding Anna in death are her parents, sisters Lorraine (Floyd) Dickinson, Francis (Lloyd) Dickinson, Bruce Higbee; sister-in-law Doris (Marvin) Bills, brother-in-laws Richard (Rosemary) Almy, Jerry Bennett, Leslie Parker, Jr, and son-in-law Ross Mast. Anna is survived by her children, Pamela Almy (Thomas Nelson), William (Connie) Almy, Diana Almy, Brian (Monica) Almy, Carol (Keith) Schrauben, and Marsha Almy (Dan Schaffer), 13 grandchildren, 22 great-grandchildren: sister-in-laws Catherine Higbee, Ruth Bennett, Barbara Parker, and many special nieces and nephews.
