Anthony John Thelen, age 80, of Pewamo, passed away on Friday, December 3, 2021 surrounded by his family. He was born June 6, 1941, the son of Louis and Hilda (Fox) Thelen. He was a member of St. Joseph Church and Knights of Columbus, and the VFW Post #3733. Tony spent most of his life farming with his brother, Bill. In retirement, he enjoyed wood working and playing cards with family and friends. He especially loved his wife, Mary Ann, his kids and grandkids, siblings, nieces and nephews, friends, neighbors and generally any person he met. Tony loved people. He devoted much of his time, treasure and talents in assistance to others, especially the less fortunate.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his brother, James Thelen; his sister, Donna Kramer; his brothers-in-law, Philip Kramer and David Hanses; and nephews, Philip Kramer and Stephen Field. Surviving are his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary Ann (Feldpausch) Thelen; children, Sandra (Steve) Wolniakowski, Todd (Stephanie) Thelen, James Thelen, Michael (Amy) Thelen, Douglas (Bobbi) Thelen, Anthony (Celena) Thelen and Kerri (Ryan) Bengel; 26 grandchildren; 4 great grandchildren; brother, William (Diane) Thelen; sisters, Sr Donna Jean, Kate (David) Hanses, Bonnie (Bob) Pearson and Sue Thelen; sister-in-law, Mary Ann (James) Thelen; and many nieces and nephews.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Darrel Kempf and Rev. Charlon Mason with Dcn Kolbe Wolniakowski at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday December 7, 2021 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Joseph’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-8 p.m., Monday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Joseph's School in memory of Tony. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
