Bernard "Bud" A. McKenna, age 91, of Hubbardston and Okemos, MI, passed away on Thursday, September 23, 2021. He was born on July 14, 1930 to George and Margaret (Smith) McKenna. He received all the sacraments of the Catholic Church in Hubbardston, Saint John the Baptist Parish and was a member of the Saint Martha Parish in Okemos. Bud married his childhood sweetheart, Joan Marie Shively, on October 1, 1955. Bud lived a full life of devotion to his wife, Joan, and four children, Kathleen (James) Terlecki, Timothy (Phyllis) McKenna, Michael (Cathy) McKenna, Keena (James) Dunn, and grandchildren, Nicole (Brad) Brasil, Michael, Keegan, and Katie (Spencer), Jennifer, Amy, and Shelby. Bud was looking forward to meeting his first great-grandchild.
Bud was employed by National Biscuit Company (Nabisco) for his entire working career, until he retired in 1989. Bud was a member of the American Legion Post 182 in Hubbardston after he returned from the Korean War and became a lifelong member of the American Legion Post 182 in Hubbardston, MI and V.F.W. Post 701 in Lansing, MI thanks to his children.
Surviving is his wife Joan of 66 years of marriage, their children, brother Gene (Bonnie) McKenna and many nieces and nephews. Preceded in death are his parents, George and Margaret McKenna, 10 brothers and sisters and brother-in-law, Roger Shively.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Friday, October 1, 2021, at 11:00 a.m., at Saint John the Baptist Catholic Church in Hubbardston, with Fr. Larry King officiating. Relatives and friends may meet the family at the Church for visitation from 10:00 a.m. until 11:00 a.m. A graveside service and luncheon will follow the Funeral Mass.
