Betty Jo Johnson (Jo), age 93, passed away September 4, 2023.  Jo was born in Alma, MI on October 5, 1929 to Darrell Hindall and Hazel Dell (Chase) Hindall. 

She is preceded in death by her spouse of nearly 65 years, Charles Ward Johnson (died January 14, 2021). Jo is also survived by four children, Dennis (Debi) Johnson of Vestaburg, MI, Paige (Bob) McCully, of Orleans, MI, Mark Johnson of Blanchard, MI, Sue Roberts of Munising, MI, seven grandchildren, Jason (Brittany) Johnson, Andrea Johnson,  Rachel Johnson, Kristen Colley, Nicholas Colley, Joshua (Samantha) Colley, Alisha (Kevin) Rudden, ten great-grandchildren, Maxwell and Finnigan Johnson, Damian Colley, Ceili Osborn, Whitney Colley, Logan Colley, Ethan Colley, Lilly, Zeb and Charlie Jo Rudden, and numerous nieces and nephews.

Jo spent the last two years of her life at the Portland Assisted Living and Memory Center (PALMC) in Portland, MI.  The staff at PALMC provided exceptional care to Jo and all of their residents.  One constant in Jo's daily life was asking the staff “when will Shorty be here?”  They steadfastly told her that Shorty would be there after dinner, or after another appropriate time in the near future.  We are happy that Shorty has now arrived to pick her up. 

Jo requested to be cremated and her ashes will be disseminated at a later date.  No additional services are planned at this time.
