David Lee Borton, Sr., of Ionia, passed away peacefully surrounded by his family on April 22, 2023, at the age of 82. He was born to Stanley and Mable (Hahn) Borton on February 18, 1941 in Fowler and spent his formative years growing up in Pewamo. David was a faithful member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus. He was a veteran of the U.S. Marine Corp and he went on to retire from General Motors after many years of service. David was an avid Detroit Lions and Detroit Tigers fan and he enjoyed golfing in his spare time. He will be missed by all who knew and loved him.
Preceding David in death are his parents and siblings, Arlene Borton, Carl Borton, Opal Welch, Louie Borton, and Donny Borton. Surviving are his loving wife, Gloria (Hernandez) Borton; children, Angela (Gordon) Priest, David Lee Borton, Jr., and Robert Borton; and grandchildren, Joey Borton, Robbie (Kaitlyn) Borton, Mike (Bethany) Borton, Brandon (Kaitlyn) Borton, Autumn Carbajal, Jenny Borton, Jessica Borton, Emily Priest, Ethan Priest, and Elijah Priest.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Thomas Brown at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 27, 2023, at Ss. Peter & Paul Catholic Church, Ionia. Rite of Committal will be in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.
