David Palmer Moore

David Palmer Moore, age 86, of Portland, passed away peacefully at his home with his family surrounding him on October 4, 2021. Dave was born on September 18, 1935 in Alma, the son of Howard G. and Ruth A. (Palmer) Moore. Dave was a proud veteran serving in the US Army. He married his beloved wife, Rosalie (Desprez) Moore on June 21, 1958 and they shared 63 wonderful years of marriage together. He was fond of the outdoors and loved to go boating, snowmobiling, and deer hunting camp. Dave enjoyed antiquing and traveling to Florida in the winter. He was an avid Detroit Tigers and MSU fan, but his favorite sporting events to watch were that of his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dave will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

Preceding him in death are his daughter, Sara Marie; parents, Howard and Ruth; step-mother, Eva Moore; sister and brother-in-law, Ruth Jean and Leonard Barber; in-laws, Allen and Elsie Desprez; and brother-in-law, Jack Desprez. Surviving Dave are his wife, Rosalie; children, Michael (Janelle) Moore of Petoskey, Julie (Kurt) Balderson of Portland, and Heather (Jeff) Scheurer of Ionia; 6 grandchildren, Kristen (Kyle) Smith, Nicholas (Nicole) Moore, Jennifer (Chris) Vallier, Kyle (Trisha) Balderson, Mallory, and Emma Scheurer; 8 great-grandchildren, Cade, Charlie, Molly, Mason, and Carter Vallier, Reese Balderson, and Walker and Hannah Smith.

The Funeral Service will be celebrated by Pastor Scott Otis and Pastor Letisha Bowman at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, October 7, 2021 at the Portland United Methodist Church. Interment will follow at Portland Cemetery with Military Honors provided by the Portland VFW Post #4090. The family will receive friends and relatives on Wednesday from 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland and one hour prior to the service at the church on Thursday. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Alzheimer’s Association in memory of Dave.
