On June 10, 2021, Debra Ann Curtis (Bendt) of Ionia, MI passed away peacefully in the comfort of her own home, surrounded by family. In July of 2020 Debra was diagnosed with a rare form of brain cancer, Gliosarcoma. She fought for 326 days with the support of her family and friends. This is a true representation of how Debra lived her life. She was a fighter, a warrior, a hero. Debra was an activist for equality and rights of all humans. She was the biggest supporter for her children and all those she loved. She is described as loving hard, and those she loved said it was the strongest most heartfelt love you’d ever feel. Even though Debra is no longer with us to give her love everyday, those she loved will live everyday knowing true unconditional love exists. Debra was born on August 14, 1963 in St. Johns, MI. Debra is preceded in death by her father, Leroy H. Bendt and brother, Staff Sergeant Leroy Scott Bendt. Debra is survived by her loving husband of nearly 41 years, Brian Curtis, her 6 children, Tara (Jeff) Carr, Shawn Curtis (Josh Witte), Kyle (Kayla) Curtis, Magen (Himzo) Selmic, Kelsey (Shelton) Correia, and Breann Simon; 6 wonderful grandchildren, Marshall, Daisy, Emir, Wyatt, Esma and Gabriel, her mother, Lois Bendt, siblings, Marcy Glick (Anthony Calabro), Duane (Theresa) Bendt, Melissa (Scott) Livasy and Rebecca Dean, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins, aunts and uncles. A Celebration of Life will be held in honor of Debra at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting donations be made to the Glioblastoma Foundation (glioblastomafoundation.org).
