Donald L. Leak

Donald L. Leak passed away Friday, July 19, 2024 at U of M Sparrow in Lansing after a brief illness. Don was born in Sebewa Township on March 26, 1934 to Leon E and Alta Leona (Curtis) Leak.

Don graduated from Woodland High School in 1952 and served in the US Army as PVT-1 from Jan 19, 1955 until his honorable discharge on Jan 18, 1957. He remained in the Reserves until Jan 1963. Don began working for the C&O Railroad, beginning at the Lake Odessa Depot right out of high school and continued at various locations until his retirement after 41 yrs.

Don found great joy in fishing with his friends in northern Michigan, deer hunting, camping in his motor home, and time with family and friends. Don was very proud of his heritage and remained in contact with friends and acquaintances in the community.

He was predeceased by his parents, sister Mary Jane (Leak) White and wife, Rose Etta Leak. He is survived by loving wife, Jean Cook Leak, his children, Teresa Leak Sweet, Danelle (Ryan) Leak Carigon, Peggy (Keith) Salter, Terry (Elwood) King, Dixie Eliason, Larry (Sharon) Eliason and Elaine (Mike) Petersen, Jean’s children, Susan (Warren) Steele, Cynthia (Dick) Knoop, Brenda (Ken) Steele, Laureen (Wes) Cook, Darvin (Angie) Cook & Linden (Kim) Cook, 15 grandchildren, 35 great grandchildren and 15 great great grandchildren.

In lieu of flowers, donations in his memory can be made to Lake Odessa Historical Society for the benefit of the Depot Museum.

Don will be interred in the Sebewa Township Cemetery with his family per his wishes. A Celebration of Don’s Life will be held at the Ionia Moose Lodge on August 31, 2024 at 1:00 pm.
