Donald G. Pung of Portland, age 89, passed away on Friday, September 3, 2021. He was born on October 20, 1931 in Westphalia Township, the son of Norman and Laurina (Stump) Pung. Donald was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia. He enjoyed traveling, was a longtime farmer and retired as a Machine Repairman from Motor Wheel after many years.
He was preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 66 years, Elizabeth Pung; and brothers, Richard (Rosemary) Pung and Stanley (Iva) Pung. Surviving are his children, James Pung of Houston, TX, Kenneth Pung of St. Johns, Debra (Thomas) Klein of Pewamo, Kathleen Sabin of St. Johns, Michael (Kim) Pung of Portland, Ruth (William) Klein of Pewamo, and Diane (Albert) Boyce of Haslett; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Wednesday, September 8, 2021 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 2- 4 and 6-8 p.m., Tuesday, September 7, 2021 at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. The rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. on Tuesday at the chapel. Memorial contributions may be made to St. Mary’s School in memory of Donald.
