Doris Elaine Montgomery

Doris Elaine Montgomery, age 89, of Ionia, passed away on Friday, June 11, 2021. She was born on May 15, 1932 in Ionia the daughter of Robert and Blanche (Rowland) McCord. Doris was a lifelong member of Easton United Methodist Church, sang in the choir, played the piano, was a Sunday school teacher, and a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed jigsaw puzzles, word searches, reading, and tending to her garden and bird feeders. Her family was the most important thing to her, she loved family gatherings, and spoiling the grandchildren. After her children had left the house, she was a school aid at the Ionia Public Schools for several years. Doris was often called, “gorgeous”, by her husband, Bob and he preceded her in death in 2010. She was also preceded in death by her daughter, Alice (Herbert) Corey and all of her beloved siblings. Surviving are her children, Mary Montgomery Colvin of Saranac, Donna (Dick) Nees of Jackson and David (Debra) Montgomery of Ionia; grandchildren, Nicholas Colvin, Sara (Will) Berti, Matthew (Katelyn) Nees, Joshua Montgomery, Melissa (Jason) Sisler, Robert (Maria) Montgomery II, Megan Corey; great-grandchildren, Brianna Ardis, Chloe Sisler, Izabella and Emileena Sisler, Braxton, Brighton, and Briley Montgomery, Natalie and Olivia Berti, Sherry, Joshua and Benson Montgomery; sisters-in-law, Beverly McCord, Joan Strickling and Toni Montgomery. The Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Donna Sperry at 12:00 p.m., Saturday, June 19, 2021 at Easton United Methodist Church, 4790 Potters Rd., Ionia. The family will receive friends from 11:00 a.m. until the time of the service. A luncheon will follow the service and burial will take place in Easton Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Easton United Methodist Church or to the Ionia Co. Commission on Aging in memory of Doris. Arrangements are with Lehman Funeral Homes.
