Duane Theodore Irrer, age 82, of Portland, passed away January 3, 2021. He was born on February 5, 1938 in Riley Township, Michigan, the son of Clarence and Lorena (Pung) Irrer. On June 19, 1959, Duane was a member of the first graduating class of Lansing Community College where he earned an Associate of Science in Electrical Technology. Duane was a proud member of the U.S. Army Reserve, being honorably discharged on September 30, 1966. He was an excellent cook and baker- pies and cookies being his specialty. Duane operated the Mess Hall while in the reserves and continued cooking for others at the Conservation Club and the VFW in Portland and Lyons. He worked many places but the majority of his work was helping people with electrical and equipment problems and helping people move from place to place. Duane had a wonderful sense of humor and could make anyone laugh. He was a good friend to many and will be missed by all.
Preceding Duane in death are his parents; siblings, Clarence Irrer, Jr., Lorrain Wood, and Shirley Noren; beloved friend, Ruby Stovall; brothers-in-law, Michael Carmody, Carl Noren and Laurence Kupferschmid; nephews, Timothy Irrer, Karl Noren and Kenneth Noren. He is survived by his siblings, Joanne Grow, David (Chris) Irrer, Janice Carmody, Linda Kupferschmid and Mary (Jim) Ditta and many nieces and nephews. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m., April 22, 2021 at Sunset Memorial Gardens, 2811 South State Road, Ionia. Following the graveside service a luncheon will be held at the Grand River Conservation Club, 7345 Lyons Road, Portland, all are welcome to attend. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
