Mrs. Elizabeth Jean Bublitz (Grier) passed away Tuesday, February 11, 2025, in the care of Hospice in Lansing, Michigan. She is preceded in death by her husband John Herman Bublitz. She was beloved mother to Rebecca (Steve) Howard, Bonnie (Brian) Zimmerman, John H. (Kenda) Bublitz II, and Jeremy (Brian Kohls) James and grandchildren Cassandra (Randy Xiong) Staszuk and John H. Bublitz III, and two great grandchildren. Betty was born up in the Saginaw Michigan area to William and Gertrude (Haley) Grier. She was devoted to her siblings, the late Willam (Virginia) Grier, Jack Grier, and Pat (Bill) Bower. As well as her niece Constance (Bill) Reetz and her late nephew Joseph (Margaret) Bower.
She worked for the phone company when she was younger and met her husband on a double date. Initially she was uncertain about John, but he won her over in the end. They were married in 1955 and shortly after moved to the Lansing area. Betty and John were active in the Lansing Boat Club and attended St. Casimir Church. After retiring, Betty and John spent years managing apartment buildings throughout the Lansing area for DTN Management. After retiring a second time, they moved to Apollo Beach Florida to be closer to family. They were active members of their Caribbean Isles community, where they enjoyed the warm weather for more than 20 years. After John’s passing in 2022, she moved back to Lansing to be closer to her children.
Betty will be remembered for her kindness and ability to make others feel loved. She was caring and compassionate, helping friends, family, and strangers. She had the ability to strike up conversations with complete strangers, often offering motherly advice. She was silly and easily distracted but found the best in everyone she met. She will be missed. Special thanks to the care team at Vista Springs Assisted Living for helping make her last few years comfortable and filled with warm memories and compassionate care. No services are currently planned. Friends can send condolences to her son Jeremy James, 1623 Osband Avenue, Lansing MI 48910. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes.
