Ellis "Bill" Humphrey, 93, passed away on March 24, 2025, in Grand Ledge, Michigan.
Born on November 20, 1931, in Bear Lake, Michigan, Bill led a life marked by dedication to his work, his family, a love of nature, and an appreciation for the simple joys of collecting and restoring vintage “treasures”. He pursued higher education and graduated from Michigan State University before embarking on a career as a forester in Oregon and ending with the Soil Conservation Service in Bath, Michigan. Bill proudly served as a petty officer in the U.S. Navy from 1951 to 1955, demonstrating his commitment to service and country. Beyond his professional life, he found great joy in estate sales and had a keen eye for buying and selling vintage tools. His passion for plants and wildlife was evident in how his spent his time outdoors, appreciating nature’s beauty. A devoted fan of MSU Spartan basketball, Bill rarely missed an opportunity to cheer on the team. He also had a deep love for animals, particularly cats, adopting several over his lifetime. He also enjoyed his daughters’ pets, Mei Mei and Mika.
Bill is survived by his children: Joel (Lynn) Humphrey, Mary Ann Humphrey, Colleen (Ron) Catallo, Kathy Humphrey, and Shelley (Greg) Olson. He is also survived by his grandchildren: Carly Lutz, Jenna Catallo, Alyssa Humphrey, and Jacob Humphrey, by his siblings: Wallace (Lucille) Humphrey and Ruth Ann (Don) Meyers, along with many nieces and nephews.
