Ethel Jose Clark, of Ionia, passed away peacefully at home on October 14, 2024 at the age of 98. A beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, and great-great-grandmother, Ethel was born on May 15, 1936 in Grand Rapids to Peter and Edith (Jannereth) Elzinga. She was a deeply dedicated member of the First United Methodist Church for many years, where she also served as the church’s bookkeeper. A woman of many talents, Ethel enjoyed quilting and creating beautiful pieces that will be treasured by her family for many years to come. She also loved playing bingo in her spare time. Ethel was committed to serving others throughout her career, working not only at the First United Methodist Church, but also at the Christian Service Center and Rite Aid. Her caring nature touched many lives, and her presence will be deeply missed.
Preceding Ethel in death are her parents; husband, Gene Clark; daughter, Nancy (Ken) Schrauben; and son, Thomas Newkirk. Surviving are her children, Colleen Clark Thompson and Gene W. Clark II; grandchildren, Rodney (Christa) Schrauben, Veronica (Jim) Dean, John (Julie) Newkirk, Kevin Schrauben, Kristy Newkirk, Lynn (Brenda) Dankenbring; great-grandchildren, Memphis and Tayleigh Schrauben, Zackary and Charlie Dean, Chelsea Schrauben, Nick (Megan) Schrauben, and Tyler Dankenbring; and one great-great-grandchild.
A graveside service at Easton Township Cemetery will take place at 2:30 p.m., Saturday, October 19, 2024 with Pastor Lamar Gibson officiating. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
