Frank Maynard Gill, Sr. went to go with our Lord on Friday, November 3rd, following a long stay at both SKLD Nursing home Ionia, Michigan and Holland Home Raybrook Nursing Home Grand Rapids, Michigan. Funeral will be held on Friday, November 17th at 2:30 pm at Chapel Hill Memorial Gardens, 2894 Patterson Ave. SE, Grand Rapids, MI, 49512.
Frank grew up and graduated from Laona High School. During his school years, Frank loved to participate in sports. He loved football and basketball. He was a long time Green Bay Packers fan.
Frank met and married Sherry A. Gill at Truax Field in Madison, WI. Frank served in the Air Force and retired as a Master Sargent. They lived in many places, including California, Newfoundland, Germany, Florida, Michigan and Texas. Together Frank and Sherry have 5 children who were born in several different areas of the world.
Frank led his sons into Boy Scouts, with three of his sons earning the rank of Eagle Scout. During his scouting service, Frank served as Scoutmaster at KI Sawyer Air Force Base, Gwinn Michigan and National Scout Jamboree in 1981 and 1985. Due to Frank’s many years of service to scouting he received many awards, the most notable are as follows: Scoutmaster of the year 1972, Scouter’s Key 1972, district Award for Merit in 1976. Frank received the Silver Beaver from the Hiawathaland Council in 1981 which is scouting's highest service honor awarded by the Boy Scouts of America. He also received the Founders award in the Order of the Arrow where he was a Vigil Honor Member. He especially enjoyed going to Philmont which was one of his greatest highlights in scouting.
Frank belonged to Lodge 101 of the Free and Accepted Masons of Michigan and was a lifetime member of K.I. Sawyer Square and Compass Club.
He enjoyed Friday night dates with his wife Sherry and creating many craft projects with his scroll saw well into his later years. He also enjoyed RVing with his wife during retirement, spending many days in Texas. Frank is survived by his children: Frank, Bernard, Elizabeth, Kevin, and John; Twelve grandchildren: Trina, Aaron, Nicolas, Moriah, Jared, Heather Britany, Melissa, Sharon, William, Richard, Hannah; and Great-Grandchildren: Daxston, Karcey, Lelain, Temperence, Naomi, Mya, Zachary, Quintin, and Ella
