Age 84, passed away on Sunday, October 10, 2004. He was born on May 31, 1920 in Grand Rapids, MI the son of Frederick and Johanna (Denbraber) Dorner. Mr. Dorner served in the U.S. Army during World War II and was a member of the Portland VFW Post #4090. Fred drove a school bus for Portland for many years, and he worked at John Beane in Lansing for a number of years. He enjoyed refinishing antique furniture, and he and his wife Elnora spent many winters in Florida. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Alice Elnora Dorner on March 9, 2004. Surviving are 2 daughters, Kathleen (Larry) Terpstra of Sunfield and Jacqueline (Mel) Martin of Portland; grandchildren, Lucas, Amanda and Caleb Terpstra, Randy and Bryan Martin. The Funeral Service will be conducted by the Rev. Roy Atherton at 2:00 p.m. Thursday, October 14, 2004 at the Schrauben-Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland. Interment will take place at Danby Township Cemetery, with Military Graveside Honors provided by the Portland VFW Post # 4090. The family will receive friends at the funeral home from 2-4 and 7-9 p.m. Tuesday and Wednesday. For those desiring, memorial contributions may be made to the VFW Post # 4090, or to Hazel I.
