Frederick “Fred” Merschman, 91, passed away peacefully on November 9, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.
Born on February 25, 1934, Fred lived a full and hardworking life defined by dedication, humor, and love for his family. A proud U.S. Army veteran, he served his country with honor before beginning a long career at Fisher Body, from which he later retired. Even after retirement, Fred stayed busy and social, spending many years selling vehicle wax—always with his signature charm and sarcasm.
Fred was married to the love of his life, Carla Merschman, for 60 wonderful years. Together, they built a strong, loving family and countless cherished memories. Fred found joy in the simple things whether spending time with family, chatting with friends, or trying his luck at the casino, one of his favorite pastimes. Fred had a deep appreciation for the outdoors. In his younger years Fred also enjoyed deer hunting, fishing, and hunting morel mushrooms. He shared his love of these outdoor pastimes with his daughter Lori.
Fred was preceded in death by his beloved daughter, Lori Merschman. He is survived by his sons Mark (Susan) Lock and Chris (Karen) Lock; grandchildren Kati (Chris) Pannecouck, Adam (Kim) Lock, Ann (Brad) Osebold, and Dan Coleman; and great-grandchildren Emma, Ben, Wyatt, Eloise, Scarlett, William, George, Duke, Madison, Daniel, and Kennedy.
Fred’s sense of humor, generosity, and devotion to his loved ones will be deeply missed but fondly remembered by all who knew him.
