Gary Cyril Chartrand

Gary Cyril Chartrand, age76, of Pewamo, passed away on Thursday, November 2, 2023. He was born on March 24, 1947 in Portland the son of Raymond and Catherine (Smith) Chartrand. Gary was a member of St. Joseph Catholic Church in Pewamo. He is retired form the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years of service and enjoyed hunting, fishing and cooking (maybe just eating). Gary served our country during the Vietnam War in the U.S. Army and was awarded the Bronze Star and a Purple Heart. He loved his family and adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife of 52 years, Marlene (Werner); granddaughter, Alyssa Cassel; sister, Sandy Platte and brother-in-law, Dan Shattuck. Surviving are his children, Bradley (Mary) Chartrand, Wendy (Marty) Kirby and Denise (Brian) Edwards; grandchildren, Rebecca (Mario Roberts) Chartrand, Adam (Jenna) Chartrand, Alex Chartrand, Brianna Johnson and Mason Johnson, Mya Kirby, Brendan (Madison Gensterblum) Cassel, Kennedy Cassel, Triston Edwards, Nik Edwards, Skyler Edwards and Karter Edwards; great grandchildren, Gabriel Chartrand and Mina Rae Chartrand; siblings, Tim (Cora) Chartrand, Cathy Shattuck, Becky (Nick) Henry, Mary (Dave) Dothsuk, Shelly Chartrand and Lisa (Terry) Morris; brother-in-law, Hilary Platte; many Werner in-laws, nieces and nephews. The Memorial Mass will be celebrated by Rev. Darrel Kempf at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, November 8, 2023 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. The family will receive friend 2-4 and 6-8 p.m. on Tuesday, November 7, 2023 at Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland. The rosary will be prayed at 7:00 p.m. Military Honors will be provided at a later date by the V.F.W. Post #3733 at St. Joseph Catholic Cemetery, Pewamo.
