December 22, 1950 – September 2, 2024
Born and raised in Oregon Ohio, Gary’s life-long love of plants, insects and science led him to an invitation, at 15 years old, to the Natl Museum government collection in Wash. DC, and a meeting with the head entomologist, after he collected and cataloged 1,400 insects. He balanced out his science side with track and field, earning his athletic letter in wrestling.
After graduating from Clay High School in Oregon Ohio in 1968 , Gary followed his heart to enlist and serve in the U.S Army. He first became an Army Cadet in the ROTC, was a Pershing Rifleman, moving thru Officers training, and joined the ranks of Army. He went through Ranger school, Green Beret and Airborne. He was stationed with the 75th Ranger Regiment, Halo Special Forces, and as a Combatives Trainer, Gary held black belts in both Taekwondo and Karate.
He proudly served and trained soldiers in hand to hand combat, and other selective services and strategies with this unit until he was transferred to the Pentagon as a Captain and Unit Commander in logistics and investigations. He was honorably discharged at the rank of Captain.
After working at the Champion Spark Plug Company as a journeyman electrician he found an interest in Environmental Health and Safety, which tied into his love of entomology, botany, nature and science and his degrees in Marketing and Chemistry from UT. He continued his environmental work marketing, managing and consulting for different firms including, SME-USA, and Bowser-Morner.
In his years he worked with organizations in the community volunteering with the Boy Scouts of America, Lions Club, Technical Society of Toledo, SMPS, American Society of Civil Engineers, and the National Association of Environmental Professionals. Always the entrepreneur he had business’s as a Barber, Sculptor, and Artist.
After living in Toledo and raising families his last marriage took him to Ionia MI, where he found joy in the country life the last 22 years. He continued his entrepreneurial pursuits with Yard- scape Design, Collectible Critters, Paleo Art Lab and his current business Orgone Energy Fields, helping people manage their EMF exposure and clear negative energies. Working with the science of orgonite and crystals, Gary found an outlet for speaking on this subject and had developed and presented several different presentations around orgonite technology, it’s history, future, benefits, and uses.
Finding hobby careers in his retirement years he embraced his art and found pure bliss in his artistic endeavors. When he wasn’t creating, he spent his days, birding, building, caring for the yard, gardening, cooking, he even became a certified Paleontologist. He was a master of so many trades! He had a fondness for traveling the National Parks, science fiction, and military shows and books and has various collections of fun and interesting things.
His greatest artistic feat, representing 4,000 hours of work in one year, was a 45 feet long by 25 foot tall Tyrannosaurus-rex skeleton, made up of 75% re-cycled materials, he called Dino. The Art Prize 2012 sculpture “A Second Chance at Life” by Gary and Travis Fields, was perched in front of the Gerald Ford Museum and ranked in the Top 25 by popular vote. Their interpretation honors the human spirit to survive, and inspired their message to pursue your dreams, follow your heart, utilize your talents and to make a difference and be recognized.
He passed away unexpectedly on Labor Day, September 2, 2024, crossing peacefully, in his home, surrounded by love and light. His Orgonite will leave a lasting legacy in all those who have a piece of this energetic art.
