Gary Hendee of Pewamo passed away on December 28, 2024 at the age of 68, surrounded by his family after a short battle with cancer.
Gary was the son of the late Robert and Barbara Hendee of Portland. He was a 1974 graduate of Portland High School. He retired from GM after 32 years as a die maker.
Gary leaves behind his wife, Luann, of 49 years; three children: Duane (Amy), Craig (Marissa) and Kimberly (Robert) Loomis; grandchildren: Katelyn, Nicholas, Tyler and Matthew Hendee and April Bucio, Caleb, Paxton, Bennett, and Alaina Loomis.
Gary had a deep love of hunting, fishing, woodworking, and camping- especially up north on his "piece of heaven".
He also enjoyed volunteering his time for the Pewamo-Westphalia community running scoreboard and keeping books for the boys and girls basketball programs.
The family would like to send a special thank you to the Sparrow Oncology team, the Carson City Infusion Center, and the 5-North care team from Butterworth Hospital. A special thank you to the Pewamo Fire Department and Sparrow Home Hospice team that allowed Gary to be home and comfortable in his final days. Gary will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Father Darrel Kempf at 2:30 p.m. Friday, January 3, 2025 at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Right of Committal will follow at St. Joseph Cemetery. The family will receive friends before the mass from 1:30 p.m. to 2:30 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 1:15 p.m. at St. Joseph Catholic Church, Pewamo. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Home. In lieu of flowers, Gary had requested that donations be made to the Pewamo-Westphalia basketball program or the Pewamo Fire Department.
