George D. Becker, of Portland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 19, 2025 at the age of 87. He was the son of Kenneth and Ruth Becker, born on December 3, 1937 and was a proud graduate of Portland High School – Class of 1956. On August 9, 1958, George married his high school sweetheart, Donna Warder. George was a IBEW Journeyman Electrician for 65 years working for different contractors until his retirement. George and Donna lived in various places before returning to their hometown. They moved to Gladstone, MI while George was working in Escanaba and they fell in love with the area, moving their family there for the next 29 years. Later, they lived on a lake in Prescott, MI for 13 years before returning to Portland. George was a hardworking and fair man- he held himself to high standards and expected the same from those around him. His sense of humor lit up every room, and he brought laughter to all who knew him. A skilled craftsman, he built and remodeled each of his homes with care and dedication – always leaving things better than he found them. He will be missed by all who had the pleasure of knowing him.
Preceding George in death are his parents, Ken and Ruth Becker; in-laws, Terry and Margaret Warder; brother, John (Jeanean) West; sister, Barb Sherrard-Becker; and granddaughters, Sophia Page and Darya Diné.
