Gerald Earl Schrauben, age 86, of Portland, passed away peacefully at home surrounded by his family on April 22, 2022. Jerry was born the son of Herman and Bertha (Trierweiler) Schrauben on December 24, 1935. He was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and the Knights of Columbus Council #2168. Jerry served our country in the US Army and is a proud veteran. Jerry was very active in the community - he owned and operated Jerry’s Barber Shop, Jerry’s Downtown Bar, and Shurway Storage for many years.
Jerry is preceded in death by his parents; daughter, Mary Lynn Schrauben; sisters, Bernice Fitzmaurice and Janet Sutherland; and brother, Herman Schrauben, Jr. Left on this Earth to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 64 years, Rita Schrauben; children, Carol (Terry) Thelen, Betty (Eddie) Fields, Robert (Kimberly) Schrauben, Joan (Steve) Goerge, and Jerry (JoEllen) Schrauben; 9 grandchildren; 6 great-grandchildren; brothers, Kenneth (Donna) Schrauben, Roy (Carolyn) Schrauben, and Michael (Bobbi) Schrauben; sisters-in-law, Carole Schrauben and Bernie (Bob) Pung; special friend, Bud Ward; and many special nieces and nephews.
Jerry’s family would like to extend a heartfelt thank you to everyone for their kind thoughts, prayers, compassion, and meals during this time.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, April 28, 2022 at St. Patrick Catholic Church, Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery with military honors provided by the Portland VFW #4090. The family will receive friends on Wednesday from 5-8 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
