Gordon James Wright, of Ionia, passed away Thursday, September 6, 2018 at the age of 72. He was born September 9, 1945 in Traverse City, the son of Roby Rayburn and Mable Irene (Clements) Wright. Gordon was a proud veteran of the U.S. Army, working with field artillery in the Vietnam War. He was a Deputy with the Ionia County Sheriff's Department for many years, eventually retiring from Amway. He loved old cars, the Chrysler Mopar, and especially his 1969 Dodge Charger. Gordon was always there to lend a helping hand to those in need without any hesitation. He also enjoyed volunteering at the Blanchard House with the Ionia Historical Society.
Preceding Gordon in death are his parents. Gordon is survived by his sons, Robert (Julie) Wright and Mike Wright; granddaughter, Morgan Wright; siblings, Harold Wright, Shirley (Jim) Menacher, Rick (Lynda) Wright, and Sharon Robinson; and several nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be conducted by Pastor Daniel Boone at 11:00 a.m., Friday, September 14, 2018 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia.
