He served in the US Army from 1956-1960. He was a Specialist Four with the First Battalion, 126th Infantry. He served as a Wireman; installing, maintaining and repairing tactical communication lines and was a Qualified Sharpshooter with the M1 rifle. His lifelong career was in appliance repair, owning his own company for many years, DuMond Appliance Repair.

He is survived by his three daughters, Stacey DuMond of Greenville, Kimberly (Joe) VanZytveld of Greenville, Tanya (Wes) Shafer of Ionia; Step children Jodey (Gladys) Lafler of Clarksville, Jill (Tony) Glinsky of Bellevue, Buffie (Kevin) Luhring of Sand Lake; his grandchildren Tabetha (Wesley) Butterfield, Bryce VanZytveld, Aspen (Devyn) Hubbard, Jesse (Courtney) Shafer, Wyatt (Molly) Shafer; great grandchildren Isabel, Lincoln, Bostyn, Carter, and Justin; 12 step-grandchildren; 19 great grandchildren; and 11 great great-grandchildren! He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard E. and Emma (Pretzel) DuMond, and his wife of 30 years, Nancy (Taylor) (Lafler) DuMond; his brother, Robert (Marilyn) DuMond; and his stepson, Brett (Rhonda) Lafler.

He loved being outside with his daughters, spending many summers on the lake at his cabin near Tawas City, teaching them how to swim and waterski. He instilled in his daughters a love for the outdoors. He was a devoted father who believed in teaching life skills, even if it meant teaching his daughters how to ride motorcycles and snowmobiles like the boys. He taught them how to roller skate, build forts, hunt, fish and fix things.

He loved tinkering with things, even when they weren’t broken. He was an amazing ballroom dancer and loved dancing with his wife. He will be deeply missed, a life well-lived and the gifter of memories forever cherished.

A heartfelt Thank You to Faith Hospice and Nurse Tom who was our Angel during this difficult time.
