James Stephen Klein, Sr., a beloved member of the Portland community, passed away suddenly on Thursday, May 16, 2024, at the age of 78. Born on July 6, 1945, to Norman and Marie (Werner) Klein, Jim lived a life marked by dedication to his family, faith, and community. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
Jim was a devoted member of St. Patrick Catholic Church and actively participated in the Knights of Columbus #2168 in Portland. His professional career spanned 32 years at General Motors, after which he owned and operated S&K Trophies for 17 years. Jim had a passion for raising cattle and was an avid collector of bells.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Norman and Marie Klein; his brother, Larry Klein; brother-in-law, Bill Stajos; in-laws, Isidore and Regina Schmitt; and niece, Rachelle Gladding.
Jim is survived by his loving wife of 58 years, Jeanie; his children, James (Nicole) Klein, Jr. and Jonda (Terry “Chopper”) Schrauben; and his cherished grandchildren, Hunter and Tanner Klein, Jocelyn (Dustin) Parkhouse, Morgan (Eric) Schweitzer, and Madison (Joe) Mackowiak. He also leaves behind his great-grandchildren, Isla and Declan “Bubby” Parkhouse, and Olive and Delaney Mackowiak.
Jim is also survived by his siblings, Jan Stajos, Thomas (Cathy) Klein, Colleen (Dennis Tenyck) Gladding, and Rita Klein; and his in-laws, Gerald (Evelyn) Schmitt, Richard (Bonnie) Schmitt, and Ruth Doepker.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 1:00 p.m. on Tuesday, May 21, 2024, at St. Patrick Catholic Church in Portland. Rite of Committal will follow at Portland Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Monday from 2:00-4:00 p.m. and 6:00-8:00 p.m. at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge St., Portland, with the rosary being prayed at 2:00 p.m.
