James R. Lakin Sr. born on January 8, 1934 and passed away on May 23, 2021 at the age of 87. His death is preceded by his daughter, Jacklyn Renee Lakin, his parents, Harold and Mabel Lakin, and his siblings, Douglas, Barbara, and Kenneth. Survived by his beloved wife of 66 years, Janet Lakin, his three sons Jim (Dawn), Jon, Jeff (Ashlee), 7 grandchildren, 5 great-grandchildren, and his brother, Roger Lakin.
Jim was born and raised in Portland, MI. He had a vast knowledge and passion for property development and construction, helped build communities and homes for the needy, both in the U.S. and South America. He served his country in the United States Army during the Korean War conflict and remained patriotic until the day he died. For years, Jim was the patriarch of the Lakin Christmas tree farm, helping generations of families create memories, by choosing and cutting the perfect tree. Jim had an adventurous spirit, often enjoying the great outdoors hunting, fishing, hiking, backpacking, and camping with his family. He was a member of South Church in Lansing, MI and an active greeter for many years. Jim had the heart of a true servant, giving sacrificially of both his time and resources. Jesus was his Lord and Savior and he was a shining example of God’s love to his family and friends. Jim loved to laugh and had a wonderful sense of humor. He was a man of integrity and a leader in his family and community. He was deeply loved and will be greatly missed by his family and many friends.
