James E. Ruehs

James E. Ruehs, age 76, of Ionia, Michigan, passed away Monday, May 17, 2021. Jim was born in Ionia on July 3, 1944. He graduated from Ionia High School in 1962, and graduated from Valparaiso University, Valparaiso Indiana, in 1965 with a Bachelor of Science degree in chemistry and biology.

Jim worked at A/C Spark Plug in Flint, Michigan 1965-1967. In 1967 he joined the US Marines and served a tour in Vietnam from 1969-1970. He left the Marines with the rank of Captain. Then he worked for Ford Motor Company in Westchester, New York until 1979, when he returned to Michigan and worked in the construction industry for McGraw Construction for 34 years until his retirement. In his free time, he enjoyed golfing, fishing, and deer hunting.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Ed and Mary Ruehs and brother, Thomas A. Ruehs. He is survived by his wife Pat, nephews, Justin and Jared Ruehs, stepdaughter, Windy Badder, several great nieces and nephews, grandchildren and a great-granddaughter.

He was a lifelong member of the Lutheran Church--Missouri Synod. The Funeral Service will take place at 11:00am on Friday, May 21, 2021, at Good Shepherd Lutheran Church, 10305 Bluewater Highway, Lowell, officiated by Pastor Joe Fremer; a visitation is scheduled for one hour prior to the service.
