Janet Ann Thelen, a lifetime resident of Westphalia, Michigan, entered into eternal rest on January 15, 2024 at the age of 80.
Born on November 2, 1943, the daughter of Leonard A. and Rita M. (Hengesbach) Thelen, Janet grew up in Westphalia where she was a 1962 graduate of Pewamo-Westphalia High School. She married her high school sweetheart Roy Thelen at St. Mary Catholic Church in Westphalia on August 22, 1964, and they resided their entire married life of nearly 60 years at their home on Price Road. She worked for the Accident Fund until 1968, when her daughter Patricia was born, and then became a stay-at-home mom.
Janet loved to play cards. She and Roy would play a friendly game of cribbage at breakfast, lunch, and dinner. She enjoyed playing card games with her grandchildren too; and she would have Pringles and Hi-C ready for the grandkids when they visited. There was always a lot of fun and laughter during these visits.
She was an avid bowler for many years. She continued to remain good friends with the ladies she bowled with and they played cards once a month after they completed their bowling careers. She loved the camaraderie she shared with these women and often talked of the fun they had together at their monthly card games.
With a love for her Catholic faith, Janet taught religion class to special needs students for a few years. She devoutly attended First Friday Mass and loved spending time with our Lord in Adoration.
Janet was a loving wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. She was a model of kindness and gentleness for her family. She took pride in her family and loved showing people pictures of her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. She truly enjoyed family gatherings.
She is survived by her husband Roy, her children, Patricia (Daniel) Feldpausch, Douglas (Jacci) Thelen, Robert (Trisha) Thelen, and Jon (Jennifer) Thelen; her grandchildren Marina (Andrew) Leja, Kayla (Seth) Nelson, Monica (Korey) Beasley, Christopher (Mackenzie) Feldpausch, and Mariele Feldpausch; great-grandchildren Caroline and Henry Leja and Julianna and Ellina Feldpausch; siblings Ken (Mia) Thelen and Jeanne Sleight.
A visitation will take place on Thursday, January 18, 2024 from 2-7 p.m. with the rosary being prayed at 1:30 p.m. at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia.
The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Fr. Eric Weber. Mass will take place at 10:30 a.m. on Friday, January 19, 2024 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church, Westphalia. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Catholic Cemetery. Arrangements are entrusted to Lehman Funeral Homes. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
Memorials may be made in Janet’s name to Sparrow Hospice House of Mid-Michigan and the Father Aloysius Miller Trust Fund.
