John Henry Schmitt

John Henry Schmitt, age 90, of Westphalia, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 12, 2019. He was born on May 28, 1929 the son of William and Anna (Theis) Schmitt. John was a member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Westphalia. He was a lifelong farmer and also worked at the Westphalia Milling Co. for 41 years. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary; grandson, Shane Platte; sister, Dorothy Schneider; brothers-in-law, Hillary Feldpausch and Jerry Fox. Surviving are his children, Liz (Tim) Simon, Robert Schmitt and Don Schmitt; grandchildren Brian (Jill) Platte, Kiel (Kayla) Platte and Evan (Izzy) Platte; great grandchildren, Lydia, Aubrey, Edie, Weston, Greta and Henry; Siblings, Mary (Ronald) Trierweiler, Harold (Mary Lou) Schmitt, Anna Feldpausch and Martha (Ted) Williams; several nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Eric Weber at 10:30 a.m., Friday, August 16, 2019 at St. Mary’s Catholic Church.. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery. The family will receive friends 2-4 and 6-8 p.m., Thursday at the St. Mary’s Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia St. The rosary will be prayed at 1:30 p.m. The family would like to thank the staff at Independence Village and StoryPoint for the kindness shown to John.
