Joseph Peter Meyers

Joseph Peter Meyers, age 81, of Ionia, passed away on Sunday, September 8, 2024. He was born on June 23, 1943 in Portland, the son of Lewis and Helen (Gensterblum) Meyers. Joe was a faithful member of Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, the Ionia Moose Lodge, and the American Legion Post #182 in Hubbardston. He served in the U.S. Army for 2 years then worked at the Chrysler Trim Plant for 12 years and the Michigan Department of Corrections for 20 years. Joe enjoyed trapping, hunting, fishing, and playing pool in his younger years and going to the casino. He loved playing cards with his grand kids and watching his sons and grandchildren’s sporting events throughout the years. He dearly loved his family and grandchildren.

He is preceded in death by his parents; brother, Robert Meyers; sister, Geraldine (Chuck) VanderWoude. Surviving are his loving wife of 51 years, Sandra Meyers; sons, Jason (Karen) Meyers and Shawn (Christi) Meyers; grandchildren, Anthony, Hunter, Carter, Gabrielle, and Maxwell; siblings, Elaine Ewing, Michael (Angie) Meyers, Sue Luna, and Theresa Babinski; sister-in-law, Linda Meyers; in-laws, Paul (Elizabeth) Fernholz, Dolores Schmitt, and Jan (James) Maynard; and many nieces and nephews.

The Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated by Rev. Thomas Brown at 11:00 a.m., Thursday, September 12, 2024 at Ss. Peter and Paul Catholic Church, 434 High Street, Ionia. Rite of Committal will be in Mt. Olivet Catholic Cemetery. The family will receive friends from 4:00-7:00 p.m. on Wednesday, September 11, 2024 at the Lehman Funeral Home, 220 Rich Street, Ionia and at 10:00 a.m. at the church on Thursday.
