Joseph J. Schmitt

Joseph J. Schmitt, age 77, of Portland, passed away on Friday, April 30, 2021. Joe was a member of St. Patrick Church, he was an accountant for many years, enjoyed fishing, and playing cards at the Senior Center. Joe loved his family and enjoyed spending time with his grandson, C.J. and talking on the phone with his nephew, Ronnie. He was preceded in death by his parents; wife, Helen; an infant brother; brothers, Jerome Schmitt and Leon (Neva) Schmitt; sisters, Helen Krouse and Mary Ann (Terry) Allen. Surviving are his children, Ann Schmitt and James Schmitt; grandson, C.J.; brothers, Robert (Mary Ann) Schmitt and Reynold (Florence) Schmitt; sisters, Theresa Patterson and Germaine Schmitt; and many nieces and nephews. The Mass of Christian will be celebrated by Rev. Mike Alber at 11:00 a.m., Wednesday, May 5, 2021 at St. Patrick Catholic Church. Rite of Committal will follow at St. Mary’s Cemetery, Westphalia. The family will receive friends 3-7 p.m., Tuesday at the Lehman Funeral Home, 210 E. Bridge Street, Portland.
