Justus Paul Crownover Young (May 17, 1982 - April 11, 2026)
Justus was born on May 17, 1982, the oldest of six children. He was a happy child and very curious, which often led to some interesting adventures for the family and him. As he got older, Justus faced some challenges in his life but always tried to do his best, and he graduated from Perry High School in 2001. Justus loved music and movies and could always tell you who directed, starred in, and composed the soundtrack for those movies. He also had an uncanny ability to remember minute details of activities and experiences decades after they happened. He loved to sing and always had a dream of singing in a band with his brothers. Justus had a son, Dominick, whom he loved. As his siblings got married and had children, Justus loved those nephews and nieces, too. Most of all, Justus recognized his need for God’s grace and love in his life. He was a tender soul and cried often, whether at a movie, a song, or reading a book to his niece or nephew.
Justus left us on a sunny afternoon, surrounded by his loving family. He is survived by his son, Dominick Pope of Jackson, Michigan; his parents, Timothy and Kathleen Young of Haslett, Michigan; his grandmother, Maxine Anderson of Georgia; his brother, Samuel (Whitney) of Detroit, Michigan; his brother, Spencer (Lauren) of Traverse City, Michigan; his brother, William of Orlando, Florida; his sister, Lillian (Jacob) Piepszowski of Grosse Pointe Park, Michigan; his sister, Julia (Austin) Dunn of Traverse City, Michigan; nephews, Silas and Deacon Young, Gideon Dunn, Theodore and George Piepszowski, and nieces, Cora Young and Matilda Dunn. He also leaves behind a host of uncles, aunts, cousins, and friends, who loved him.
“Set me as a seal upon your heart, as a seal upon your arm, for love is as strong as death, jealousy as fierce as the grave.” (Song of Solomon 8:6)
“Death cannot stop true love. All it can do it delay it for a while.” (The Princess Bride)
“We were together. I forget the rest.” (Walt Whitman)
A commemoration and celebration of Justus’ life will be held on May 9, 2026, at 10:30 a.m. at Spirit of Christ Vineyard Church, 8170 Coleman Rd, Haslett, MI 48840, with a light lunch to follow.
