Kathleen Ellen Gregg

Kathleen Ellen Moriarty Gregg of Ionia, MI, passed away February 19, 2025, at Green Acres Assisted Living Facility in Ionia, MI.  She was 80 years old.

Kathleen was born in Portland, MI on April 27, 1944, the daughter of Gerald and Helen (Couzzins) Moriarity.  She graduated St. Patrick's Catholic School and married the father of her children, Rodney Ross Gregg, in 1965 at St. Patrick's Catholic Church in Portland, MI.

On August 18, 1982, she married her second husband, Ray Ballard, and they enjoyed 30 years of marriage before his passing in 2012. She co-owned and operated Moriarty's Pub in Lansing MI for many years before taking a position at Meijer Warehouse, from where she eventually retired.

Kathleen, lovingly known as Kasey, was an avid reader, survivor of breast cancer and loyal friend to many. She was a petite woman with a fire in her spirit that far outmatched her small frame. Fiercely independent, she was never one to rely on others to carve her path. Beneath her strong will was a heart overflowing with love for her family and friends. Her passing leaves a hole in all the hearts that loved her back.

Proceeding Kathleen in death are parents; her husband, Ray Ballard; siblings; Sharon (Larry) Mason, Carol (Stanley) Smith, Lois (Donald Lowe) and Martha Moriarty.  

Surviving are her siblings Joanne Elder, James (Jean) Moriarty, Michael Moriarty, Monica Rudd; children, Richard (Tami) Gregg, Robert (Christine) Gregg, Randy (Carrie) Gregg; grandchildren, Courtney (Savannah) Gregg, Conner (Tianara) Gregg, Tyler Gregg, Samantha Gregg, Devan Gregg, and Cameron Gregg; great-grandson, Milo Gregg and many nieces and nephews.  

Family and friends are invited to pay their respects on March 15, 2025, at Portland Mount Hope Church at 845 Ionia Road, Portland, MI 48875. Visitation from 11 to 12 pm, memorial at noon, and a luncheon immediately following. Online condolences may be made at www.lehmanfuneralhomes.com.
