Kathleen Mary Miller, Grand Rapids, Michigan, formerly of Lansing, and Pentwater, died on November 27, 2022 at age 94. Kathleen was a loving wife, and mother, a skilled homemaker, a valued friend to many and a gracious, thoughtful, generous soul. She was the oldest of twelve children born to Viola (Simon) and Harold Platte in Westphalia, Michigan. Kathleen married Herman “Ham” Miller in 1949 and they raised nine children in Lansing. She began her working career as an assistant to Ransom E. Olds, founder of the Oldsmobile Motor Vehicle Company. Kathleen later worked as office manager of Francis Aviation Company for many years. After retiring, Kathleen and Ham spent summers in Pentwater, MI, and winters in Ft. Pierce, FL. Kathleen spent her last years at Heather Hills Retirement Community in Grand Rapids, where she made many new friends. Kathleen was preceded in death by Ham Miller, her husband of 60 years, and her son, Fred H. Miller. She is survived by her daughters, Linda (Donald) Chaffee, Edith (Allan) Smith, Janet (Charles) Strahan, Kay (Dan) Salyer, and sons, Charles (Kay) Miller, Thomas (Sandy) Miller, Glenn (Joan) Miller, Keith (Julie) Miller, 26 grandchildren, and 33 great-grandchildren. Kathleen is also survived by sisters, Joann (Frank) Koenigsknecht, Ellen (Ken) Bailey, Ann (Paul) Thelen, and brother, Bernard (Sharon) Platte. Kathleen was known for her intellect, love of reading, loyalty, and her sense of humor.
The Mass of the Resurrection will be offered by Rev. Peter Lawrence at 10:30 a.m., Saturday, December 3, 2022 at St. Mary's Catholic Church, Westphalia. Visitation will be held on Friday from 4-8 p.m. with a rosary being prayed at 7:00 p.m. at the St. Mary's Funeral Chapel, 210 N. Westphalia Street, Westphalia. Flowers are appreciated, but anyone wishing to give a donation in lieu of flowers may do so to The American Cancer Society or any charity of your choice.
