Portland, MI

Age 63, passed away peacefully on April 4, 2019 at the home of her brother, Richard (Charlene) Hans, after a courageous battle with Breast Cancer. She was born March 20, 1956 in Ionia, MI, the biological daughter of Richard and Ilene (Ward) Manning. Kathy and her brother, Richard (Manning) were adopted by Robert and June Hans in 1968 and joined their daughters Linda, Judy, and Sally, to make a family of seven. Kathy had a loving heart, child-like innocence, and a “free spirit” that took her to many destinations. As a child she attended school in Portland and graduated from Lansing Christian High School in 1975. She enjoyed Gaither Vocal Band music, playing games, and befriending and socializing with everyone who crossed her path. She was preceded in death by her biological parents, Richard Manning & Ilene (Frank) Fockler; adopted mother and step-father, June (William) Spitzer; adopted father and step-mother, Robert (Lois) Hans; husband, Carl Wiseman; sisters, Sally Jo (Hans) Blair and Debra Kay (Manning) Dominguez; and brothers-in-law, Gary Austin and Paul Perry. She is survived by her son, Steven Pifer (Rorie Dodge) of Haslett; Steven’s four children and two grandchildren; sisters, Linda Perry of Lansing, Judy (Jim) Linebaugh of Lyons, and brother Richard (Charlene) Hans of Portland; biological siblings, Yvonne Austin of Alma, Michael Manning of South Carolina, Troy Manning of Ionia, Renee (Howard) Schofield of South Carolina, Allan (Chris Mull) Fockler of Ionia, and Lisa (Lucas) Murray of Grand Rapids; and many nieces and nephews. A private family memorial will be held at a later date this summer. A special thank you is given to the staff of Hospice of Lansing for the wonderful and compassionate care given to Kathy and her family.
