Marie Catherine (Schafer) Pohl, age 90, of Westphalia, loving wife, mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother went to be with the Lord on February 7, 2021. She was born in St. Johns on December 6, 1930, the daughter of Adam and Pauline (Martin) Schafer. She was a faithful and devoted member of St. Mary’s Catholic Church and the Christian Mother’s Society. Marie was employed at Maynard Allen State Bank in Westphalia for 19 years before her retirement in 1990. She was married to the love of her life, Robert “Corkey” Pohl for 53 wonderful years until his passing in 2009. Above all, Marie adored her family and treasured the time she spent with them; especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, the brightest lights in her life. Some of her fondest memories were hosting her famous popcorn parties on the front porch with her family at the farm.
Preceding Marie in death are her parents; husband, Robert “Corkey” Pohl; brothers, Steve Schafer and Donald (Geraldine) Schafer; and in-laws, Red (Jeanette) Beachnau, Anthony (first wife, Lorraine and second wife, Ellen) Pohl, and Mary Ellen Pohl. Surviving are her children, Cheryl (Randy) Thelen, Sandy (John) Winans, Dean (Ann) Pohl, and Lynne (Kevin) Wieber; grandchildren, Shane (Sarah) Thelen, Nicolas (Allison) Thelen, Amber (Adam) Bengal, Paige (Jared) Wirth, Brad (Haley) Winans, Travis (Marissa) Winans, Phoebe Pohl, Charlotte Pohl, Brooke (Paul) Platte, Brandon Wieber, and Blake Wieber; great-grandchildren, Eleanor, Isabelle, Easton, Leslie, Lennon, Jack, Eden, Samuel, Logan, Lawson, Quinton, and Deegon; sister, Sr. Gladys De Paul; brother-in-law, Elvan Pohl; her very special Schafer nieces and nephews and the Pohl and Beachnau nieces and nephews by marriage.
